The exhibits, education programs, and community activities presented by the Benicia Historical Museum are made possible in part through the generous donations of the community. Now, more than ever, your contribution will help us stay afloat until we are able to resume our regular activities.

 

Won’t you join us in preserving our city’s important contributions to local, state, and national history?

In accordance with CDC, State, and County mandates and for the health and safety of our volunteers, visitors, and staff, our Museum and Offices are currently closed.

Staff will be operating from home on limited hours during our regular business days, Tuesday through Friday between 9am and 2pm. You may reach the Museum office by email at info@beniciahistoricalmuseum.org.

Tour the Museum Buildings & Exhibits

The Benicia Historical Museum offers educational  and group tours of the Museum buildings and exhibits, housed in the 1850s original Benicia Arsenal buildings.

Museum Exhibits

The Museum’s main gallery features exhibits on Benicia’s history with such topics as: the native Patwins of Solano County, the founding of Benicia and California, the Gold Rush, The Benicia Arsenal, manufacturing, and the arts.

Guided Tours

Guided tours of the Benicia Historical Museum are a great way to spend an afternoon in Benicia!

Museum Exhibits

The Museum’s Industrial Exhibit is a separate gallery space dedicated to Benicia’s industrial legacy.

Stone Hall

This historic building provides a charming setting for rentals of all sorts. A catering kitchen is available for food service. Tables and chairs are available to rent from the Museum.

Spenger Garden

Why camel barns?

The name, Camel Barn Complex, comes from a unique chapter in Benicia’s contribution to US Military history. In the 1850’s and 1860’s, the US Army experimented using camels, imported from the Mideast, as pack animals. When the experiment was abandoned after the Civil War, the camels were brought to the Benicia Arsenal for auction
