Educational Tour Form

We welcome your school group to the Benicia Historical Museum! Docent-led tours of the Museum & Powder Magazine and the Early California Hands-On Outdoor Activities take a total of approximately 2 ½ hours.

Ideally, there should be a ratio of one chaperone (teacher/parent/other) per every five students to facilitate the success of the Hands-On Program. A Museum Associate will be available to assist, but should you have fewer volunteers, the hands-on activities may need to be condensed. Please advise your volunteers prior to your arrival, so that this is a fun and education experience for everyone!

The hands-on activities will take place outside (weather permitting). These activities are based on life in California circa 1837-1870s, and students will learn about many items used during this time period. Students will break into groups and rotate through the following stations depending upon your time schedule and the number of adults in your group. We do have indoor activities for rainy days.

♦ Water hauling and steer roping ♦ Bucket brigade ♦ Adobe brick making ♦
California Indian pictographs ♦ Corn grinding ♦ Artifacts table ♦ Laundry

Students should dress appropriately. Please avoid jewelry or clothing which may become damaged by water or mud. If the forecast is for sun and heat, please be sure to put on sunscreen and/or wear a hat.

Please review the following information to ensure that it is correct and return it as soon as possible. We look forward to your visit, and hope it is a valuable learning experience. If you have any questions please call the museum at (707) 745-5435 during office hours, Tuesday – Friday, 9am to 2pm.
